These beetles are widely recognized in Asia for their distinct appearance and their habit of visiting flowers to feed on plant tissues.

Biology and life cycle The life cycle consists of four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Adult beetles are primarily diurnal, showing high activity levels during sunny and warm weather. While the larval stages typically reside in the soil or decaying organic matter, the adults are highly active floral visitors that migrate between host plants.

Host plants and damage symptoms Oxycetonia beetles primarily target flowers and developing fruits. They feed on pollen, petals, and floral organs, often leaving behind jagged edges and hollowed-out buds. Common hosts include roses, various ornamental flowers, and several fruit-bearing trees, such as citrus, where the damage can be quite severe during the blooming phase.
