Description

The genus Oxyptilus belongs to the family Pterophoridae, commonly known as plume moths. These insects are easily identified by their unique wing structure, where both forewings and hindwings are deeply cleft into narrow, feather-like lobes. They are generally small, slender insects that often rest with their wings held out at right angles to the body.

These moths are primarily associated with host plants in the Asteraceae and Lamiaceae families. While many species are harmless, those belonging to the Oxyptilus genus can cause notable damage in agricultural settings, specifically targeting floral structures, buds, and young foliage of ornamental and medicinal plants.
