Systematic position: The garden gold fruit beetle (Pachnoda marginata) belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Scarabaeidae. Native to tropical Africa, this species is frequently kept as a pet in terrariums, but in agricultural settings or garden environments, it can behave as an invasive pest, particularly in greenhouses and mild climate zones where it finds suitable conditions to thrive.

Target crops: These beetles are known for their preference for floral organs and succulent fruits. They cause significant damage to roses, peonies, dahlias, and various fruit trees. The adults specifically target the delicate parts of the flower, such as petals and reproductive tissues, which affects the plant’s aesthetic value and potential for fruit set.

Biology and life cycle: The lifecycle of Pachnoda marginata includes egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. Females lay eggs in nutrient-rich soil or decaying organic matter. The larvae (grubs) are detritivores, but they can occasionally feed on living roots if food sources are limited.
