Pachypasa sericeofasciata is a moth species belonging to the family Lasiocampidae, order Lepidoptera. This insect is recognized as a significant pest in various African ecosystems, where it primarily affects woody plants. Like other members of the lappet moth family, the adult stages are nocturnal and well-adapted to camouflage, while the larvae are the primary stage responsible for the damage caused to host vegetation.

The host range of this species includes a variety of trees, particularly those found in forested areas and plantations. Larvae exhibit polyphagous feeding habits, showing a preference for specific foliage that provides optimal nutrition for their rapid growth. Their feeding activity is most intense during larval development, leading to substantial foliage loss when population numbers are high.

The biological cycle of Pachypasa sericeofasciata is characterized by distinct developmental phases: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Eggs are typically deposited on host bark or leaves. Once hatched, the larvae feed gregariously or solitarily depending on their developmental stage.
