Pandeleteius is a genus of snout beetles belonging to the family Curculionidae. These insects are part of the Entiminae subfamily and are primarily distributed in warmer climates, with a significant presence throughout the Americas. In agronomic contexts, this genus is recognized as a pest capable of causing economic damage to both ornamental plants and various agricultural crops.

This pest affects a broad range of woody plants and shrubs, including fruit trees and certain industrial crops. Damage is most frequently observed on the foliage, young shoots, and buds. In intensive farming systems, these insects can cause a significant decline in the photosynthetic capacity of plants, leading to stunted growth and increasing susceptibility to secondary infections.

The biology of Pandeleteius involves a complex life cycle comprising the egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages. Females typically lay eggs within plant tissues or in the soil substrate near the roots. Larvae usually develop either inside plant tissues or within the soil, feeding on roots, while the adults are primarily terrestrial and actively feed on leaves during the spring and summer months.

Damage symptoms include characteristic notched margins on leaves, holes within the leaf blades, and spring bud destruction. In cases of high population density, complete defoliation of the host plant can occur. The economic impact includes not only direct biomass loss but also the potential for vectoring various viral or fungal pathogens through the damaged plant tissues.
