Systematic position of this pest belongs to the order Hemiptera, family Diaspididae (armored scales). These insects are specialized sap-feeders that have adapted specifically to parasitize Buxus species. Their small size and protective armor make them a difficult pest to manage in professional landscaping and private gardens alike.

Host plants affected by this species are strictly within the genus Buxus. It commonly targets boxwood hedges, topiaries, and ornamental shrubs. Plants grown in poor soil conditions, or those suffering from lack of pruning and airflow, are generally more susceptible to heavy infestations of Parlagena buxi.

Biology and life cycle involve distinct stages, starting with eggs protected under the female's waxy scale. Upon hatching, the first-instar nymphs, known as crawlers, move across the foliage to find suitable feeding sites. Once a site is selected, they insert their mouthparts, remain stationary, and begin secreting their own protective covering, which effectively shields them from many environmental factors and predators.

Damage and pest impact are caused by the direct extraction of plant sap from leaves and stems. Affected areas often show chlorotic spotting, wilting, and stunted growth. In cases of severe infestation, the plant experiences significant defoliation, twig dieback, and a general decline in vigor, which ruins the ornamental value of the boxwood planting.

Control measures require an integrated pest management (IPM) approach.
