Systematic position: The Camellia scale (Parlatoria camelliae) belongs to the order Hemiptera and the family Diaspididae. These are armored scale insects known for being significant pests in both greenhouse environments and outdoor subtropical settings, where they thrive by extracting plant nutrients.
Host plants: This pest has a broad host range, including Camellia species, citrus trees, azaleas, mango, and laurel. They typically infest leaves, often aggregating along the midrib, as well as succulent stems and occasionally the surface of fruits, which can impact crop quality.
