Parlatoria pergandii, commonly known as the chaff scale, is a significant insect pest belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Diaspididae. It is recognized globally as a major threat to citrus production due to its ability to proliferate rapidly and cause severe physiological stress to host plants.

This species primarily infests citrus trees, including oranges, lemons, mandarins, and grapefruits. While citrus is the main host, it can also be found on a variety of ornamental plants, making it a persistent challenge for both commercial growers and nursery management.

The biology of Parlatoria pergandii involves a distinct developmental cycle where the female produces a shield-like covering. The pest reproduces throughout the year in warmer climates, with the crawlers (the first instar stage) serving as the primary mobile phase responsible for dispersing the population across the plant canopy.

Damage caused by the chaff scale is twofold. Firstly, direct feeding results in sap depletion, leading to chlorosis, stunted growth, and canopy thinning.
