Systematic position: The strawberry weevil (Phytobius comari) belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Curculionidae. Crops: The primary host plant is the garden strawberry (Fragaria ananassa). The insect is also frequently found on wild strawberry species and marsh cinquefoil (Comarum palustre), which serves as an important wild reservoir for the pest population in the vicinity of commercial fields.

Biology and life cycle: The adult weevils overwinter in the soil or under debris. As temperatures rise in early spring, they emerge to feed and mate. Females lay their eggs by boring holes into the petioles or flower stalks of the host plants.
