The rough-necked pine weevil (Pissodes scabricollis) belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Curculionidae. This species is recognized as a significant forest pest, specifically adapted to attacking coniferous trees, and it is known for its ability to cause severe damage to pine forests by feeding under the bark.
The primary hosts of this weevil are various species of pine trees. The insects typically target weakened or stressed trees, although populations can increase rapidly in dense forest stands, leading to infestations of otherwise healthy trees. Its presence is often associated with disturbed forest ecosystems where tree vigor is compromised.
