Description
The Williams plume moth (Platyptilia williamsi) belongs to the Pterophoridae family within the Lepidoptera order. This species is easily identified by its unique wing structure, where the forewings and hindwings are divided into feather-like plumes, which is a distinctive evolutionary adaptation for this family of moths.
This pest primarily targets plants within the Asteraceae family. While it is often observed on wild plant species such as yarrow or groundsel, it can impact ornamental crops and certain agricultural plants if they are susceptible to larvae feeding. The moth's presence is often correlated with specific microclimatic conditions favored by its host plants.
