Systematic position: Poecilimon bosphoricus belongs to the order Orthoptera and the family Tettigoniidae (bush-crickets). These insects are recognized by their distinct, often reduced wings and specialized acoustic signaling used for mating, which is typical for the genus Poecilimon found across various European and Mediterranean habitats.

Host plants: This species is a generalist feeder (polyphage). It commonly affects cereal crops, legumes, and various leafy vegetables. In addition to agricultural field crops, it may cause aesthetic and physiological damage to ornamental plants and orchard trees, feeding on buds and soft foliage.

Biology and life cycle: The species undergoes incomplete metamorphosis. Eggs are laid in the soil or into plant stems and overwinter successfully. Nymphs emerge in late spring and undergo several molts. Adult forms are typically observed from mid-summer, actively feeding and mating before the end of the season when the females oviposit for the next year.

Damage and economic impact: The damage is primarily caused by both nymphs and adults chewing on plant tissues. They feed on leaves, leaving ragged holes, and can occasionally target reproductive parts of the plants such as flower buds and developing fruits. This feeding reduces photosynthetic efficiency and can lead to stunted plant growth.
