Green leaf weevil (Latin: Polydrusus tibialis) is a beetle species belonging to the order Coleoptera and the family Curculionidae. It is recognized as a pest in forest ecosystems and orchards, where its feeding habits can negatively impact the health and development of host trees.

This insect primarily infests a variety of deciduous trees and shrubs. In agricultural settings, it commonly targets pome and stone fruits, including apple, pear, cherry, and plum trees. While it is rarely the primary pest, its presence can compound stress on plants that are already suffering from other environmental or biological factors.

The life cycle involves an egg, larval, pupal, and adult stage. Larvae develop in the soil, feeding on the root systems of vegetation, which often goes unnoticed by growers. Following pupation in the spring, adult weevils emerge and move to the foliage to feed and reproduce throughout the summer months.

The damage caused by Polydrusus tibialis is primarily aesthetic and physiological, involving the consumption of leaf edges. Adults create irregular, scalloped notches along the margins of the leaves. In cases of severe infestations, significant defoliation occurs, which compromises the tree's photosynthetic capacity and weakens overall plant vigor.

Effective pest management strategies should focus on preventing population explosions through various methods:

• Cultivating the soil beneath the canopy to expose and destroy pupae.
• Installing physical barriers or sticky bands on the tree trunks to catch climbing adults.
• Applying targeted insecticide sprays during the peak emergence window if economic thresholds are exceeded.
• Maintaining healthy tree vigor through proper pruning, fertilization, and irrigation to mitigate the impact of foliage loss.
