Systematic position: The pest belongs to the phylum Nematoda, class Chromadorea, order Rhabditida, and family Pratylenchidae. It is classified as a migratory endoparasitic nematode, known for its ability to penetrate and feed on the root cortical tissues of various plants, causing significant economic damage.
Host range: Pratylenchus pseudopratensis is a polyphagous parasite. It infests a diverse range of crops, including cereals (wheat, barley), maize, legumes, and several horticultural crops. Its presence in the rhizosphere of various weed species allows the population to persist in fields between cropping seasons.
