Biology and life cycle: The insect follows a complete metamorphosis life cycle. Adults emerge and bore into the bark, constructing egg galleries within the inner bark. Larvae hatch and excavate galleries that radiate from the central maternal tunnel, feeding on the phloem and cambium layer until pupation occurs.

Damage and severity: The primary damage is caused by the disruption of nutrient transport through the cambium. When multiple beetles attack a single host, they can effectively girdle the tree.
