Psilopholis vestita is a significant species of scarab beetle within the family Scarabaeidae. This insect is recognized as a serious agricultural pest, particularly in regions where tea and coffee plantations are the primary source of economic stability, causing notable losses in crop yield.
Taxonomically, the species belongs to the order Coleoptera. It has a broad host range, focusing primarily on the root systems of permanent crops. Young seedlings are particularly susceptible, as a few larvae can completely sever the main root, leading to rapid plant mortality in the field.
The biological cycle of this pest is characterized by a prolonged larval stage spent in the soil. The larvae, typical grubs, remain in the rhizosphere for several months or even years, feeding on organic matter and living roots.
