The host range of Pulvinaria torreyae is somewhat specialized, focusing on conifers in specific climatic zones. These insects typically inhabit the twigs and the underside of the needles. The lifecycle of this pest is characterized by the production of conspicuous white, cottony ovisacs (egg sacs) created by the females.
