Systematic position. Raglius alboacuminatus is a species of true bug belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Rhyparochromidae. This insect is primarily found in various terrestrial habitats, often utilizing dry soil surfaces and grassy patches for shelter and food resources throughout its life cycle.

Crops affected. This pest acts as a polyphage, frequently targeting various seed-bearing crops and wild plants. It can cause economic damage to essential oil crops, certain legumes, and ornamental grasses. By concentrating on specific weed species, it often transitions to adjacent agricultural fields when host plant quality declines.

Biology and life cycle. The life cycle involves egg, five nymphal instars, and the adult stage. The species typically overwinters as an adult in leaf litter or beneath dry organic debris. With the onset of spring, adults emerge, feed, and mate. Females deposit eggs in the soil or at the base of host plants, leading to nymph development over the warmer months, with adults usually emerging by late summer.

Nature of damage and harmfulness. As a sap-sucking insect, Raglius alboacuminatus uses its piercing-sucking mouthparts to extract nutrients from plant tissues, particularly developing seeds. This damage significantly reduces seed germination rates, reduces plant vigor, and may lead to necrotic spots on leaves and stems, eventually weakening the plant's overall reproductive capability.

Control measures. Effective management starts with cultural practices such as regular weed control, which removes the primary breeding habitats for these bugs. Maintaining field hygiene and proper crop rotation can disrupt their life cycle. In scenarios where population density reaches critical levels, the use of registered insecticides is recommended, targeting the younger nymphal stages when they are most vulnerable.
