Description

Systematic position: Rhigopsidius (most notably Rhigopsidius tucumanus) is a genus of weevils belonging to the family Curculionidae, order Coleoptera. These insects are significant agricultural pests, particularly recognized as quarantine organisms in several potato-producing regions globally.

Crops affected: The primary host plant is the potato (Solanum tuberosum). The larvae are specifically adapted to tunnel into potato tubers, making them a destructive threat to both commercial potato yields and stored seed potatoes in high-altitude environments.

Biology and life cycle: The life cycle comprises egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. Adult weevils typically emerge from the soil to feed on potato foliage at night.
