Rhynchocoris humeralis is a species of true bug belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Pentatomidae. This pest is recognized for its significant impact on various agricultural sectors, primarily within its native range in Asia, where it poses a constant threat to commercial crop production.

The host range of this insect includes citrus trees, cotton, and various legume species. As a sap-sucking pest, it targets developing fruits, leaves, and tender shoots, extracting essential nutrients and moisture, which disrupts the normal development of the plant and reduces the overall yield quality.

The life cycle follows a hemimetabolous pattern, progressing through egg, five nymphal instars, and adult stages. Favorable climatic conditions allow for multiple generations within a year. Adult bugs are resilient and can survive in sheltered environments, making them difficult to eradicate once they establish a presence in an orchard.

The damage caused by Rhynchocoris humeralis is distinctive due to the piercing-sucking feeding mechanism. When feeding on fruit, the bug injects saliva containing enzymes that cause tissue necrosis and unsightly deformations. This often leads to fruit drop, significant yield loss, and market devaluation of the surviving produce.

Management strategies for this pest require an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach. Key measures include:
