Description
Rhypodes anceps is a species of true bug belonging to the family Rhyparochromidae. It is recognized as a specific pest in agricultural environments, particularly within regions like New Zealand, where it frequently interacts with garden strawberry crops as an opportunistic herbivore.
The primary host for this insect is the strawberry plant. While they are often found in low-lying vegetation, their presence becomes economically significant when they move into berry fields, as they prefer the tender tissues of developing fruit to satisfy their nutritional requirements for reproduction and development.
The life history of Rhypodes anceps is characterized by a gradual metamorphosis. The insects overwinter in the soil or beneath debris. Once temperatures rise, they emerge to feed and reproduce.
