Saga pedo, commonly known as the predatory bush-cricket, belongs to the order Orthoptera and the family Tettigoniidae. It is one of the largest insects in Europe, with females reaching lengths of up to 15 centimeters. Its body is elongated and often matches the color of dry grass, allowing it to remain perfectly camouflaged within its natural steppe or grassland habitat.

Despite being classified in some databases as an entity of interest, Saga pedo is not an agricultural pest; it is an obligate predator. Its diet consists primarily of other insects, such as grasshoppers and locusts. By predating on phytophagous insects that feed on crops, the bush-cricket serves as a natural biological control agent, assisting farmers in managing insect populations within the ecosystem.

Misunderstandings regarding its "pest" status often stem from its intimidating size and the fact that it is frequently spotted near cultivated fields while hunting for prey.

Conservation is the primary management strategy for Saga pedo, as it is considered a vulnerable and endangered species in many parts of its range. To protect this insect, it is recommended to maintain field margins and avoid excessive use of broad-spectrum pesticides.
