This insect is a type of armored scale, which leads a concealed lifestyle by protecting its body with a hardened, waxy test or "shield." Within agricultural practice, this species is recognized as a significant pest affecting various woody and shrubby plants in tropical and subtropical climates.

The primary hosts damaged by this species include a variety of ornamental plants, fruit trees, and citrus species. These insects colonize stems, branches, and leaves, firmly attaching themselves to the bark or cuticle. In areas of high infestation, the damage manifests as plant deformation, premature leaf drop, and a general decline in the vitality and growth vigor of the host plant.

The biology of Serenaspis minima involves several distinct life stages. Following fertilization, females lay eggs under the protective shield, which serves as a nursery until the crawlers emerge. The crawlers (first-instar nymphs) are mobile and move across the plant surface to locate an optimal feeding site, where they eventually settle permanently and begin extracting plant sap through their stylets.

Furthermore, the feeding process often leads to metabolic imbalances, and the insects' honeydew secretions provide a substrate for the growth of sooty mold. This secondary infection significantly interferes with photosynthesis and compromises the commercial quality of the affected vegetation.
