Description
Shirahoshizo flavonotatus is a species of snout beetle belonging to the order Coleoptera and the family Curculionidae. It is recognized as a specialized pest that impacts various woody plants, particularly those within the Fagaceae family, causing ecological and economic concern.
The primary host plants for this species include various species of Oak (Quercus) and Chestnut (Castanea). While the impact on healthy, mature trees can sometimes be minimal, young saplings and nursery stock are highly susceptible and can suffer significant structural damage from larval activity.
The biological cycle of this insect involves complete metamorphosis. Adults typically emerge in the spring or early summer to feed on foliage and bark.
