Sphaeronema is a genus of plant-parasitic nematodes belonging to the family Sphaeronematidae. These microscopic roundworms are known for their semi-endoparasitic lifestyle, where adult females remain partially embedded in the root tissue of the host plant. They represent a significant threat to various perennial crops and orchard trees, often causing invisible but substantial yield losses.

The host range of Sphaeronema includes diverse woody plants and shrubs. By feeding on the root system, these nematodes disrupt the transport of water and essential nutrients from the soil to the leaves. This nutritional stress often manifests as a lack of vigor, stunted growth, and a gradual decline in the plant's overall health over several growing seasons.
