Description

Tylenchocriconema is a genus of phytoparasitic nematodes belonging to the order Tylenchida and the family Criconematidae (ring nematodes). This microscopic pest is characterized by a specific cuticle structure with pronounced rings, which provides it with high resistance to adverse environmental conditions within the soil matrix.

The pest primarily parasitizes the root systems of various agricultural and ornamental crops. Tylenchocriconema is most frequently found in the rhizosphere of perennial plantings, where the nematodes feed on root cells by using a specialized feeding apparatus, known as a stylet, to puncture plant tissues and extract nutrients.

The biology and life cycle of this organism are closely linked to soil moisture levels and temperature. Development involves several larval stages, each ending in a molt. Female nematodes often deposit eggs directly into the soil or onto the root surfaces, from which invasive larvae eventually emerge to locate new feeding sites.

Damage symptoms include stunted plant growth, leaf chlorosis, and premature wilting. The puncture sites on the roots create micro-wounds that serve as entry points for secondary infections by pathogenic fungi and bacteria.
