Thysanofiorinia is a genus of scale insects belonging to the family Diaspididae, order Hemiptera. These insects are significant pests of various plants, primarily focusing their attack on citrus crops. They are known for their ability to remain inconspicuous while causing substantial physiological damage to their host plants.

The biology of Thysanofiorinia is characterized by the formation of a protective armor, or scale, which protects the sedentary adult females and their eggs from environmental stress and many contact insecticides. The life cycle begins with the crawler stage, which is the only mobile phase, responsible for the dispersal of the population across the host tree.

As piercing-sucking insects, they feed by inserting their stylets into plant tissues to extract sap. This process directly depletes the plant of essential nutrients and moisture. Furthermore, the injection of saliva during feeding can induce toxic reactions in the plant, manifesting as yellowing, curling, and early senescence of leaves.
