The lesser pine shoot beetle (Tomicus minor) is a destructive bark beetle species within the order Coleoptera and the family Curculionidae. It is a significant forest pest that primarily targets pine trees, focusing its infestation on the upper and mid-trunk sections where the bark is relatively thin.
The primary host for this beetle is the pine (Pinus), with a strong preference for Pinus sylvestris. Damage is twofold: larval galleries disrupt the flow of nutrients beneath the bark, while the adult stage feeds internally within the current year's pine shoots, leading to severe crown thinning.
