Systematic position: Xyleborus volvulus belongs to the order Coleoptera, family Curculionidae, and subfamily Scolytinae. It is a well-known species of ambrosia beetle, characterized by a complex mutualistic relationship with fungi that the beetles cultivate within their host plants to serve as their food source.

Host plants: This species is a highly polyphagous pest. It affects a vast range of tropical and subtropical woody plants. Key hosts include avocado, mango, cocoa, coffee, and various ornamental trees. Its ability to infest diverse plant species makes it a significant threat to global agricultural and forestry sectors.

Biology and life cycle: The female beetle initiates the colonization process by boring a gallery into the host tissue and inoculating it with ambrosia fungi. The larvae feed exclusively on this fungal growth within the tunnels. Because the beetles spend almost their entire life cycle protected inside the wood, they are shielded from most external environmental conditions.

Damage and pest status: The damage is primarily caused by the tunneling activity of the beetles, which disrupts the tree's vascular system. This interference leads to canopy dieback, leaf wilting, and in severe cases, the mortality of the host tree. Furthermore, the galleries act as entry points for secondary pathogens and wood-decay fungi.

Control measures: Management of Xyleborus volvulus requires an integrated pest management (IPM) approach:
