Affected crops: The pest primarily targets deciduous woody species. It is a significant concern for commercial orchards, including apple, pear, and stone fruit trees, as well as various ornamental and shade tree species in urban environments and forest ecosystems.

Biology and lifecycle: The lifecycle is closely synchronized with the colonization of fungal symbionts. Adult females bore into the sapwood, creating chambers where they lay eggs. The larvae subsist on the mycelium of these specific fungi, while the galleries interfere with the host tree's vascular system, potentially causing severe decline.
