Active ingredient

Beta-cypermethrin

Description

Beta-cypermethrin is a highly active synthetic pyrethroid insecticide widely used in modern crop protection. It is a potent contact and stomach poison that provides rapid knockdown activity against a broad range of insect pests. It is formulated to control infestations in various agricultural, horticultural, and forestry environments.

The mode of action for this substance is the disruption of the insect's central and peripheral nervous systems. By interfering with sodium channel functioning in nerve cells, beta-cypermethrin prevents the normal transmission of electrical impulses. This results in hyperexcitation, paralysis, and rapid mortality of the targeted pest shortly after contact or ingestion.

This active ingredient is utilized on a variety of crops, including cereals (wheat, barley), oilseeds (rapeseed), sugar beets, potatoes, and fruit orchards. It is particularly effective against Coleopterans (beetles), Lepidopterans (caterpillars), and Homopterans (aphids and leafhoppers). It is valued for its versatility and its ability to act under diverse field conditions.

Proper application technique is essential for optimal efficacy. Because beta-cypermethrin lacks systemic activity, it does not move within the plant tissue. Consequently, full coverage of leaves and stems is required to ensure that pests come into direct contact with the chemical. Applications should be avoided during extreme heat or intense sunlight, as ultraviolet radiation can accelerate the degradation of the active ingredient.

Safety and environmental stewardship are critical when handling this compound. Beta-cypermethrin is highly toxic to bees and aquatic organisms; therefore, spray drift into flowering weeds or water bodies must be strictly prevented. Workers must wear protective equipment, including respirators and chemical-resistant gloves, to avoid dermal or inhalation exposure during mixing and application processes.
