Pyrimethanil

Description

Pyrimethanil is a potent systemic fungicide belonging to the anilinopyrimidine chemical class. It is widely utilized in professional agriculture to control various fungal diseases, providing both preventive and curative action against pathogens that threaten high-value horticultural and fruit crops.

The mode of action of pyrimethanil involves the inhibition of the biosynthesis of methionine, an essential amino acid for the pathogen. By disrupting the secretion of fungal enzymes responsible for breaking down plant tissues, the substance effectively prevents the fungus from invading the plant, stopping the disease cycle at an early stage.

Pyrimethanil is particularly effective against Botrytis cinerea (grey mold), scab, and various leaf spot diseases. It is commonly applied to grapes, strawberries, pome fruits, and greenhouse vegetables. Its unique ability to remain active in cool, humid conditions makes it a preferred choice for early-season protection when many other fungicides are ineffective.

A key feature of this fungicide is its translaminar movement and the release of active vapors, which help it cover dense plant structures that spray droplets might miss. This redistribution process ensures a comprehensive protective layer on leaves and fruit, reducing the impact of secondary infections in the field.

  • Excellent efficacy against Botrytis
  • High performance at low temperatures
  • Resistance to wash-off by rain
  • Effective vapor-phase protection

Strict safety precautions must be followed during application to protect the applicator and the environment. Users should wear personal protective equipment and ensure that drift is minimized. It is also recommended to rotate pyrimethanil with fungicides of different modes of action to prevent the development of resistant fungal strains in the crop.
