Wind erosion

The process of detachment and transport of topsoil particles by wind energy, which results in the loss of organic matter and reduced agricultural productivity.

Также говорят: aeolian erosion, deflation, soil drifting

The main goal of mitigation is to maintain soil surface stability and structure. Conservation practices are essential during dry seasons and early spring when fields remain bare and soil particles are easily moved by high-velocity wind.

Farmers effectively use reduced tillage, crop residue retention, and the establishment of shelterbelts to act as windbreaks. A common error in management is aggressive mechanical cultivation in windy regions, which pulverizes the soil and makes it highly susceptible to erosion damage.
