Cycas necrotic stunt is a devastating viral disease caused by the Cycas necrotic stunt virus (CNSV), a member of the Nepovirus genus. This systemic pathogen disrupts the normal physiological processes of the plant, leading to significant morphological changes and an overall decline in plant health.

While primarily affecting cycad species, the virus has been identified as a potential threat to other botanical families, including soybeans. The transmission of the virus occurs through various vectors, primarily soil-borne nematodes, as well as through infected seeds, pollen, and vegetative propagation materials, making it highly difficult to contain once established in a nursery or field.

The primary clinical signs of the disease include stunted growth, systemic chlorosis, and the development of distinctive necrotic lesions on the leaves.   • Immediate removal and destruction of infected plants to prevent inoculum buildup.
