Description
The variety was obtained by G. T. Kazmin at Dalniiish from the seeds of Sandy-leaved cherry under free pollination. It was distinguished into elite in 1955 and zoned in 1997 in Primorsky and Khabarovsk regions.
The bush, according to morphological characteristics, more resembles a felt cherry, but also has signs of a sandy cherry. In the first two years it is poorly branched, however, on strong rootstocks its growth is normal. It is erect, compact and convenient for mechanized processing between rows. Skeleton branches are straight with rough bark. One-year shoots are straight, thick, grayish-brown with noticeable pubescence. Branching is moderate or sparse. Leaves are ovate, hard, with fairly strong pubescence. Fruit buds are small, reddish-brown, semi-pressed to the shoots (the tip is raised). They form at the ends of one-year shoots and shortened bouquet twigs (from 3 to 10 cm). Flowers are large, pale pink. Flowering is not abundant and occurs one or two days later than felt cherry. Flowering begins on May 25th and ends by June 6th. The petals of a flower are oval in shape with medium overlap. The cup shape is tubular-cylindrical. The stigma is 3-5 mm higher than the anthers.
Fruits, for local varieties, are large or very large (height 1.6 cm, diameter 1.8 cm, average weight 3.3 g). Shape irregular, rounded cylindrical. One side is beveled towards the base, which makes the fruits unequal sided. The suture is more intensely colored strip. Beak sharp, hard. Skin with intense pubescence. Upper depression wide and deep. Pedicel about 5 mm long, thin, green. Fruit color light red, uneven in intensity - lighter at the peduncle and more red towards the base. The stone has a sharp beak and an expanded base, average weight 0.2 g. Pulp is thick juicy, sweetish sour, slightly bland. Juice is light pink. Sugar content — 9%, acid — 0.7%, pectin substances — 0.6%, tannins — 8.6%. Fruits for table purposes. Average transportability. Tasting score of fruits is 4 points.
The fruits ripen by July 25th and remain on the bush without falling until August 20th. They are stored in room conditions up to four days. The variety is relatively resistant to cherry pockets, less damaged by moniliosis, but significantly affected by codling moth. Bush winter hardiness is satisfactory. Fruit buds are usually resistant to freezing. Bushes are relatively resistant to lack of moisture. It begins to bear fruit in the second year of scion growth. On strong rootstocks, the yield of a two-year-old bush is 100-300 g. The maximum yield of the mother plant is 7.8 kg.
Advantages of the variety: the largest fruited cherry variety. Compact bush. High winter hardiness of fruit buds.
Disadvantages: moderate yield, at low locations needs protection in winter.
