French selection powerhouse Mas Seeds has engineered the MAS 400D hybrid with a primary focus on yield stability for grain production. As a simple hybrid, it features dent-type kernels, which facilitate rapid moisture loss during the maturation phase. With a 160-180 day vegetation cycle, the hybrid effectively converts the regional thermal energy into consistent grain mass.

Engineering Resistance: The Phytosanitary Barrier

A distinctive feature of the MAS 400D is its high threshold of genetic resistance against aggressive maize pathogens. The breeding process specifically targeted the inhibition of Helminthosporium and Fusarium development. In the field, this engineering choice minimizes the risk of stalk lodging and reduces harvest losses, preserving grain quality for long-term storage.

Technological Aspects of Sowing Density

The hybrid’s flexibility allows for adaptation to various agricultural backgrounds. The recommended harvest density ranges from 55,000 to 75,000 plants per hectare. Sowing density should be dictated by soil moisture availability: in well-irrigated zones, targeting the upper limit (70,000–75,000) is advised, while in moisture-limited soils, a range of 55,000–60,000 plants/ha is optimal.
