Genetic Architecture of the NS 2602 Hybrid

The Serbian breeding center IFVCNS (Novi Sad) developed the NS 2602 maize hybrid as a versatile tool for intensive farming. The key feature of this material lies in the balance between vegetative mass and grain filling potential. With an FAO rating of 90–1240, the variety demonstrates a stable maturation period of 110–120 days, making it optimal for cultivation in temperate climate zones.

Biological Protection and Morphology

The technical value of this hybrid lies in its resistance to pathogens that typically reduce yields under stress conditions. The genetic selection by IFVCNS is focused on blocking fungal infection pathways within the plant's vascular system. NS 2602 exhibits significant resistance to:

• Gray mold and root rot;
• Common smut;
• Fusarium pathogens and stalk rot.

The dent-type grain ensures rapid moisture release during maturation, which is critical for minimizing drying costs. The ear structure allows the hybrid to be used for both grain production and high-quality silage with a high dry matter content.

Practical Adaptability

The single-cross hybrid type guarantees crop uniformity: the absence of variability in height and silking dates simplifies agricultural operations. Resistance to rust allows the leaf apparatus to remain functional until the end of the growing season, which directly impacts grain fill and biomass volume for silage. This is an ideal solution for farmers prioritizing predictable results and protection against core soil-borne and airborne maize diseases.
