«Folpan 50 WP» by F. Makhteshim Chemical Works is a contact fungicide based on folpet. Its primary function is to block the vital processes of pathogens directly on the plant surface, preventing them from penetrating tissues. Belonging to the phthalimide group, folpet acts as a multi-site inhibitor: it disrupts protein synthesis and enzymatic activity in fungal cells across several points simultaneously. This is a critical practical advantage, as it minimizes the risk of pathogens developing resistance through repeated use.

Technical Formulation Advantages

The choice of a wettable powder (WP) formulation ensures high stability of the tank mix and uniform coverage of the leaf surface. Upon application, it creates a robust protective film that is highly resistant to wash-off by precipitation, which is essential for maintaining efficacy in variable weather conditions.

Application and Efficacy

• Vineyards: An essential tool for controlling downy mildew (Plasmopara viticola), powdery mildew (Oidium), and grey mold (Botrytis). Its contact-based nature provides a reliable barrier against spores on all green parts of the vine.
• Potatoes: Highly effective in suppressing late blight and early blight (alternaria). Folpet acts as a potent prophylactic shield, limiting the development of infection during the critical stages of foliage growth.

The recommended application rate is 1.5–3 kg/ha, depending on the severity of the infection and crop density. A maximum of 3–4 treatments per season is advised. The pre-harvest interval (PHI) ranges from 20 to 30 days, allowing for seamless integration into comprehensive integrated pest management (IPM) programs, where it is often rotated with systemic fungicides to prevent resistance and ensure long-term crop safety.
