EVENING

Evening is a technical grape variety characterized by medium vine growth strength and large cylindro-conical clusters weighing about 230 grams. The berries are round, small to medium in size, weighing 1.7-1.9 grams, dark blue or almost black in color with thick skin. The pulp is juicy, the juice is uncolored or has a slight pink hue. The taste is harmonious, making this variety attractive for winemaking.

Berry technical ripeness occurs in the first half to mid-September, while the growing season lasts from 125 to 140 days depending on the growing region. Sugar content varies from 21 to 24%, acidity from 7 to 9 g/l. Yield reaches 160 centners per hectare at a planting scheme of 3 by 1 meter. The fruiting coefficient ranges from 1.2 to 1.4. The variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness down to -26°C, allowing it to be grown in uncovered culture.

Evening is resistant to major fungal diseases such as mildew and oidium with 1-2 preventive sprays, and also possesses good resistance to phylloxera. Bush training is recommended as a two-armed cordon with a cordon height of about 1 meter, load per bush — 20-25 buds with pruning to 3-4 buds. Cuttings root easily, and compatibility with rootstocks for bench and green grafting is high. Evening grapes are widely used for the production of table red wines and are promising for blending with varieties having low acidity and high sugar content.
