Original

Original Grape — a promising table variety of medium ripening, developed in Ukraine at the Institute of Viticulture and Enology named after V.E. Tairov. It is characterized by vigorous growth and good cane lignification, which ensures high yield and stable fruiting. The vines are hermaphroditic, promoting reliable pollination and cluster formation. The variety is suitable for cultivation in central and northern regions of Ukraine, where it is often used as a covering form due to its frost resistance up to -24 °C.

The clusters of Original grape are large, weighing from 400 to 850 grams, predominantly conical in shape with moderate density. Berries are notably large — 30 by 22 mm — with an elongated-oval or egg-like shape and attractive pale-pink or pink coloration, especially under sunlight. The berry skin is tough and thick, ensuring good storage and high transportability. The flesh is slightly juicy, with a simple flavor, rated around 8 points in taste evaluation. The sugar content of the berries ranges from 19-21%, and acidity is 5-6 g/l, making the grape well-balanced in flavor.

The variety exhibits high resistance to major grape diseases such as mildew, oidium, and rot, and is tolerant to phylloxera. Despite this, it has some drawbacks: under unfavorable weather conditions, a significant percentage of berries may be damaged, and a large portion of the cane fruit may not ripen fully. Transportability, although high, may decrease under adverse conditions. Overall, Original grape is valued for its attractive berry appearance, high yield, and adaptability to various climatic conditions.
