Systemic post-emergence control of annual and perennial grass weeds for fodder beet cultivation.
Description
Strategic control of grass weeds in fodder beet crops
«Astarg 125, EC» from the Ukrainian manufacturer «Pest.UA» is a highly selective systemic herbicide, specifically formulated to target annual and perennial grass weeds in fodder beet crops. The active ingredient, Quizalofop-P-ethyl (125 g/L), belongs to the aryloxyphenoxypropionate class, which is widely recognized for its robust performance against even the most persistent grass species.
The mechanism: systemic translocation
The technical efficacy of Astarg 125 is rooted in its systemic translocation. Upon application to the leaf surface, the active ingredient is absorbed rapidly and moves via the xylem and phloem directly to the growth points, rhizomes, and root systems. This is a critical factor for the total eradication of perennial grasses, which often survive surface-only treatments.
- Lipid biosynthesis inhibition: The product effectively inhibits the enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC), halting the production of fatty acids essential for cellular membrane synthesis.
- Selectivity: Thanks to its specific molecular structure, Astarg 125 targets metabolic processes unique to grasses, ensuring complete safety for the fodder beet crop.
Application and technical deployment
The emulsifiable concentrate (EC) formulation ensures excellent stability in the spray tank and superior adhesion to the leaf cuticle. As a post-emergence (insurance) herbicide, it provides flexibility, allowing farmers to apply treatment only when weed infestation justifies it. The recommended application rate ranges from 0.5 to 1.0 L/ha.
For optimal technical performance, application should target the 2-4 leaf stage for annual grasses and a height of 10-15 cm for perennials. By choosing a systemic, leaf-applied solution, growers can significantly reduce crop-weed competition, directly contributing to higher yield potential and cleaner field conditions.

Depending on their ability to move through living tissues, herbicides are divided into contact and systemic. Contact herbicides cause local damage to plant tissue upon contact, which dies or gradually degrades. This action does not always completely destroy the plant; often, its... |
