The Mechanism of Rimsulfuron in 'Banzai'

The core active ingredient of this product is rimsulfuron, a member of the sulfonylurea class. As a systemic herbicide, it functions by inhibiting the enzyme acetolactate synthase (ALS) in target weeds. Unlike pre-emergence soil herbicides, 'Banzai' acts primarily through the foliage: once applied, the active substance is rapidly translocated through the phloem and xylem to the weed's growing points. Within 3-6 hours of application, cell division ceases, effectively ending the weed's competition with the crop for water and nutrients.

Technological Formulation

The product is supplied as water-dispersible granules (WDG). This formulation is optimized for field operations: the granules are easy to measure, produce no dust, and form a highly stable suspension when mixed with water. Given its classification as a Category 3 hazardous material, the dust-free nature of the WDG formulation significantly enhances operator safety during tank mixing.

Spectrum of Activity

Produced by Agrikopter Asia Limited, 'Banzai' offers selective herbicidal action, making it safe for use on tomatoes, potatoes, and corn. It is particularly effective against tough-to-control perennial species, such as couch grass (quackgrass), as well as a wide range of annual dicots and grasses:

• Grasses: Barnyard grass, Wild oats.
• Dicots: Redroot pigweed, Common ragweed, Shepherd's purse, Wild mustard, Common chickweed.

Operational Recommendations

As a post-emergence herbicide, 'Banzai' delivers peak performance when applied to actively growing weeds. Because rimsulfuron degrades relatively quickly in the soil, it poses minimal risks to crop rotation. To maximize penetration through the weed cuticle and ensure reliable performance under varying weather conditions, the use of a high-quality adjuvant (surfactant) is highly recommended.
