The core of the Dilyar herbicide is clopyralid, an active ingredient from the pyridinecarboxylic acid class. Unlike contact-action herbicides, Dilyar works systemically: upon penetrating the leaf blade, the active component is rapidly translocated through the phloem to the growth points and root system of the weeds. This makes it an essential tool for controlling stubborn perennials like field thistle and sow thistle, whose deep root systems often survive mechanical tillage.

Mechanism of Action and Selectivity

The product acts as a synthetic auxin. Once inside the plant, clopyralid disrupts cell division processes, leading to uncontrolled growth, tissue distortion, stem bending, and ultimately, weed death. The critical advantage of Dilyar is its selectivity. Due to its high systemic properties, the product accumulates precisely where it is needed, without damaging crops (rapeseed, cabbage) that possess natural resistance to this compound.
