The efficacy of Dublon is rooted in the systemic action of nicosulfuron, which belongs to the sulfonylurea class. The active ingredient inhibits the acetolactate synthase (ALS) enzyme, effectively halting cell division at the weed's growth points. For growers, this means that nutrient competition between the crop and weeds is terminated shortly after application, long before visual chlorosis occurs. This ensures that the maize crop receives maximum access to water and mineral nutrition during its critical early developmental stages.

Technical Specifications of the Formulation

• Systemic Translocation: Nicosulfuron is rapidly absorbed through the leaf surface and translocated throughout the plant via the xylem and phloem. This is essential for controlling perennial grasses, such as quackgrass (Elymus repens).
• Suspension Concentrate (SC): The formulation by «August-Bel» provides excellent suspension stability in the spray tank and ensures uniform leaf coverage, which is crucial for uniform uptake.
• Selective Control: The maize crop metabolizes nicosulfuron rapidly, ensuring high safety and tolerance while weeds succumb to the herbicidal effect, provided the recommended rate of 1.0–2.0 L/ha is followed.

Practical Application Insights

Dublon is a post-emergence insurance herbicide. Its primary purpose is to rectify gaps in pre-emergence weed management. It provides robust control against troublesome species such as ragweed, pigweed, fat hen, and green foxtail. Optimal results are achieved when weeds are in the active growth phase: 2–4 leaves for grasses and 2–6 leaves for broadleaf species. As a systemic product, its performance is enhanced when environmental conditions support plant metabolism—sufficient soil moisture and favorable temperatures accelerate the herbicide's movement to the target sites within the weed, ensuring complete destruction.
