Effective Winter Crop Protection: The Experience with Grizniy

When you step into a winter wheat or barley field in early spring, the priority is giving the crop a head start by clearing competitors like ragweed, lamb's quarters, or pigweed. Grizniy from Nertus has become our go-to tool that delivers predictable results. This systemic herbicide, based on tribenuron-methyl, is highly selective. It targets broad-leaved weeds precisely without stunting the cereal crop itself.

Operating Insights

The formulation comes in water-dispersible granules. This is a huge advantage for those preparing tank mixes themselves: the powder doesn't create dust, and the granules dissolve instantly in water without leaving residue, which saves sprayer nozzles from clogging. We typically apply up to 25 grams per hectare, which is sufficient for reliable control of cleavers, chamomile, and chickweed.

• Systemic Action: The product penetrates leaves rapidly and blocks weed cell division. Growth stops just hours after application.
• Application Flexibility: This is a standard post-emergence herbicide. We apply it foliarly once the crop has established, allowing us to assess the actual weed infestation level.
• Minimal Effort: One treatment per season is the maximum required. The product is efficient, eliminating the need for repeated field passes.

It is important to note that Grizniy belongs to the 3rd hazard class. It is user-friendly, provided standard operator protection (respirator, gloves) is maintained. A spray volume of 0.5–1.0 L/ha (depending on machinery settings) ensures optimal leaf surface coverage. Over years of use, we have observed that the herbicide works exceptionally well even in cool spring weather when weeds are just beginning their active growth phase.
