Systemic soil herbicide with high selectivity for protecting soybeans, tomatoes, and potatoes.
Description
Technical Potential of Metrix WG
The formulation is based on metribuzin (a triazine chemical class), which exhibits a distinct systemic effect. Its technical value lies in its ability to inhibit photosynthesis by blocking electron transport in photosystem II. This makes Metrix WG an essential tool in intensive farming for controlling annual broadleaf and some grass weeds.
Molecular Mode of Action
The product is absorbed by both the root system and leaves of weeds, moving via the xylem to the meristematic tissues. The choice of "water-dispersible granules" as the formulation is driven by technological efficiency: they provide high stability of the spray solution, minimize dust during tank mixing, and ensure precise dosing. Once in the soil, the active ingredient forms a "protective barrier" that prevents the emergence of subsequent weed flushes.
Practical Application Details
- Selectivity: The herbicide selectively targets the metabolism of specific species without suppressing the crop (soybeans, potatoes, tomatoes) when used according to the guidelines.
- Soil Control: The high sorption capacity of metribuzin allows it to remain in the top layer of the soil, providing prolonged protection until row closure.
- Application Timing: This is a pre-emergence herbicide. Its use as a soil barrier requires sufficient soil moisture for the activation of active ingredients.
The application rate ranges from 0.5 to 1.0 kg/ha (depending on the soil texture and weed species composition). It is critical to note its Class 2 hazard rating: using personal protective equipment is mandatory when handling the concentrate. A strict limitation is set to a maximum of one application per season to prevent resistance development and to comply with environmental safety standards.

Depending on their ability to move through living tissues, herbicides are divided into contact and systemic. Contact herbicides cause local damage to plant tissue upon contact, which dies or gradually degrades. This action does not always completely destroy the plant; often, its... |

Herbicides are classified according to application timing into pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides. Pre-emergent herbicides are mostly soil-applied or granular formulations applied before the emergence of crop plants. They are applied either pre-sowing (during pre-sowing cu... |
