Why Miladar Combi is a standard for maize weed control

When entering the field to treat maize, the primary goal is to eliminate weeds in a single pass without stalling crop development. As an operator, I find the combination of nicosulfuron and thifensulfuron-methyl highly effective: it tackles both grasses and a wide range of broad-leaved weeds simultaneously.

Practical field application insights

The product comes as a suspension concentrate. In terms of preparing the spray mixture, this is convenient: it disperses quickly, does not clog spray nozzles, and remains stable. From an operator's perspective, selectivity is critical. Miladar Combi acts gently on the maize crop, avoiding phytotoxicity even under stressful weather conditions, provided the application instructions are followed.

• Application rate: 0.38–0.45 L/ha is sufficient to handle the weed pressure with just one treatment per season.
• Mechanism of action: As a systemic herbicide, it enters the weed and travels through its vascular system, destroying not just the foliage but also the root systems of perennial grasses.
• Application timing: We apply it post-emergence, typically when the maize is in the 3 to 5 (sometimes up to 10) leaf stage.

It is important to remember the product's Hazard Class 3 rating, so standard safety precautions are mandatory. The systemic nature gives the product an edge: even if some weeds are hidden under the maize canopy, the active ingredients will reach them, ensuring thorough control.
