Mechanism of Action and Selectivity

The herbicide "Nelson" is based on prometryn, an active ingredient from the triazine chemical class. Unlike contact herbicides, this product exhibits systemic activity by blocking photosynthesis in weeds during their early developmental stages. The active ingredient is absorbed through both the root system and sprouts, which is essential for effective soil-applied weed control.

Nelson’s selectivity is based on the ability of crop plants (sunflower, corn, potato) to metabolize the active ingredient, neutralizing it before it can cause tissue damage. This makes the product an ideal solution for pre-emergence applications.

Technical Specifications and Application

The suspension concentrate formulation ensures high stability of the working solution and uniform distribution of the active ingredient within the upper soil layer. The particle size is specifically engineered to create a consistent "soil screen" that remains active in the weed germination zone.

• Spectrum of Control: Effectively suppresses a broad range of broadleaf and certain annual grass weeds, including common lambsquarters and field sow-thistle.
• Application Rates: Depending on soil type (humus content and mechanical composition), the application rate ranges from 2.0 to over 3.0 L/ha. It is important to note that heavy soils require the maximum dosage to ensure efficacy.
• Application Protocol: The herbicide is applied once per season. By applying Nelson, farmers reduce the "herbicide load" during the early vegetative stage, preventing weeds from competing with the main crop for moisture and nutrients during the critical growth phase.
