A highly selective herbicide based on clopyralid for controlling stubborn broad-leaved weeds.
Description
Systemic control of hard-to-eradicate weeds
Rainlid Xtra (Rainlid Xtra, WG) is based on clopyralid, an active ingredient widely recognized as the "gold standard" for controlling Asteraceae, Fabaceae, and Polygonaceae plant families. The Water Dispersible Granules (WG) formulation ensures product stability during storage and facilitates the preparation of a working solution that prevents dusting and dissolves rapidly, minimizing waste during sprayer filling.
Technological aspects of the action
As a systemic herbicide, Rainlid Xtra is absorbed through the leaf surface. By mimicking natural auxins, clopyralid induces uncontrolled tissue growth in weeds, leading to deformation, chlorosis, and eventual plant death. This is particularly critical for managing perennial root-sucker weeds such as field thistle (Cirsium arvense), common sowthistle, scentless mayweed, and cornflower. Due to its selective mechanism, the product effectively cleanses fields of fodder beet, winter oilseed rape, winter barley, and wheat without inhibiting the crop itself.
Practical application
- Application timing: Post-emergence, when weeds are in the active growth phase (rosette stage for thistles).
- Dosage: 0.1–0.2 kg/ha depending on the weed infestation level and species composition.
- Efficiency: A single seasonal application is sufficient for complete control of target weeds.
High selectivity allows the product to be used at various vegetative stages. Classified as hazard class 3, the product is relatively safe when standard precautions are followed, although personal protective equipment is mandatory when handling the concentrate.

Depending on their ability to move through living tissues, herbicides are divided into contact and systemic. Contact herbicides cause local damage to plant tissue upon contact, which dies or gradually degrades. This action does not always completely destroy the plant; often, its... |
