Managing weed pressure in corn and potatoes with "Ramzes"

Controlling weeds like couch grass (Elymus repens) or common lambsquarters in corn and potatoes requires a reliable partner. "Ramzes," a systemic herbicide developed by F.Meaton Limited (London, UK), has become a staple in my pest control program. As a selective herbicide, it excels at removing competitors while leaving the main crop untouched.

What stands out in daily field operations is its performance as a post-emergence tool. Because it is applied after the weeds have emerged, I can evaluate the actual weed infestation before spraying, which saves both money and chemical volume. The active ingredient, rimsulfuron, acts quickly by inhibiting weed growth at the enzyme level, effectively stopping the development of persistent species like green foxtail and shepherd's purse.

Operational Efficiency

From an operator's perspective, the water-soluble granule formulation is a game-changer. It dissolves completely in the spray tank, preventing nozzle clogging—a common headache with lower-quality products. With a usage rate of up to 25 grams per hectare, it is highly efficient and minimizes the number of refills required in the field.

Handling the product requires standard precautions due to its Class 3 hazard rating, but it is easy to manage with standard PPE. In my experience, applying "Ramzes" when weeds are in the early, active growth phase delivers the best results. It remains my go-to choice for ensuring the crop has the space and nutrients it needs to produce a high-quality yield, even in fields with heavy weed pressure.
